Mgr Bernard Lagoutte, former rector of the Shrine at Lisieux, has made a gift of relics of St. Therese and her parents, Bl. Zelie and Bl. Louis Martin, to the Magnificat Foundation, which generously presented them to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The Archdiocese, in turn, has entrusted the relics to the Carmelite Monastery of Philadelphia, the cradle of devotion to St. Therese in the United States at the beginning of the 1900′s. The solemn transfer of the relics from the Cathedral Basilica to the Carmelite Monastery will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Basilica. The relics will arrive at Carmel about 2:45 p.m.
The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass (Vigil for the 33rd Sunday) will be offered in thanksgiving at Carmel at 5:00 pm.
Rev. Dennis Gill, Celebrant and Homilist
Veneration of the relics will be available before and after the sacred liturgy. At 8:00 p.m., entrance to the chapel to pray before the reliquary will be closed. No one may join the line after 8:00 p.m., but the chapel will remain open until all those who were in line at 8:00 p.m. have prayed near the reliquary.
THE CHAPEL WILL BE HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE THE WEEKEND OF NOVEMBER 16 – 17.
